Founder's Letter
SDI began with a new perspective on how people live. I believed that space could make life more beautiful and healthier. From that conviction, SDI was born — turning a single vision into everyone's beginning.
To me, a living space is never just walls, floors, and furniture. It is a world that lives between chaos and order, a stage where reality and imagination hold a dialogue, and a place where the visible and the invisible come together to create a unique experience. This is why I have always sought to honor the natural breath and essence within materials, to restore the original atmosphere and spirit of space that existed before human hands intervened, and to design places that connect with the unseen— the flow of wind, the echo of sound, the movement of light— all those intangible elements we can feel even if we cannot touch them.
Guided by this philosophy, I was recognized as the youngest recipient of Korea’s Master Designer Award, and over the past 25 years I have designed projects such as the Seoul Museum of Art, the National Library in Sejong City, the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (with Zaha Hadid), the Embassy of Japan, the Economic Office of China, the Tower Palace, luxury pool villas in Jeju, Samsung Electronics’ Xi’an Campus in China, the Singapore SLNG Plant Control Room, and collaborations with brands like Louis Vuitton, Shinsegae Duty Free, and H&M.
And yet, despite the scale of these projects, one question has always remained with me : “What story does your home tell?”
Even as virtual worlds expand and the age of AI arrives, one truth never changes. We still need a physical, material environment to rest, to live, and to share with our families. Whether it is a single-room studio or a three- or four-bedroom home, the spaces we inhabit carry our emotions, our memories, our sense of belonging, and ultimately, they define our quality of life and self-worth. We all long for spaces that are more beautiful, more personal. But when asked, “What’s the style of your home?” most people answer with broad and vague labels—classic, modern, minimal, Scandinavian, Parisian. Yet the walls you touch, the floor beneath your feet, the light that pours through your windows, and the chair that cradles you at the end of the day— none of these can ever be captured by a style name alone. A home should be nothing less than your self-portrait: a reflection of your moods, your memories, your tastes, and the way you choose to live each day.
That is why what you truly need is not an abstract “style,” but a clear, specific, and deeply personal concept. Every renowned designer begins a project this way: by defining a concept that is both precise and unique. From that moment, a house is no longer just a house— it transforms into a world that mirrors you. This belief is what gave birth to the name STUDIO DID IT (SDI). The name carries two meanings.
First, it is the joy and pride of completing your own home, the feeling of being able to say: “I did it. Wow, you did it. Yes, we did it.” It is the satisfaction of shaping and defining a space with your own hands and vision.
Second, it reflects the belief that within your own home, you are always the architect, running your own studio. Even if you are not a professional designer, in your own space you are free to create, to choose, and to bring your own Studio Did It to life. And the concepts that SDI offers are not vague labels like “modern” or “classic.” They are specific, contextual concepts—grounded in materials, light, walls, floors, textures, and atmosphere— designed so you can directly apply them to your own space with confidence and clarity.
My wish is simple. Through the knowledge I have built over 25 years, and the methodology that will continue to evolve with AI, I want everyone to experience the process of discovering, defining, and proudly living within their own concept. May your home no longer be “a house compared to others,”but instead, the truest expression of your life.
